Create folders and file your media
Kakapo Media places a folder tree next to the media library. The folders are virtual: they are an assignment in the database, not a directory on the disk. No file moves, and no image address changes.
Anyone allowed to upload files (“upload_files”) can create, rename and move folders — by default that includes editors and authors. Only the files you are allowed to edit can be sorted in; the others are skipped. You can only delete a folder if you may edit every file directly inside it. The “Kakapo Media” page with clean-up, alternative texts, replacing and the provenance check, on the other hand, requires the “manage_options” capability.
Create a folder
- Open “Media” in the WordPress menu.
- Click the plus sign at the top left of the folder sidebar.
- Enter a name and confirm with “Save”.
- For a subfolder, click the plus sign on the row of the parent folder.
File your media
- Drag a tile onto a folder with the mouse
- If several files are selected, all of them move
- New uploads land in the folder that is currently open
- In the editor's media window you filter by folder using the dropdown
A folder can be deleted without losing a file. Its contents move one level up or to “Not filed”.
