Add alternative texts

The alternative text is what a screen reader reads out. Under “Alternative texts” you find the images that do not have one yet — the newest 60 at a time, each with a suggestion from title or file name. The “Open” tile shows how many are open in total; once you have covered the first ones, the next ones move up after reloading.

Enter texts

1. Open “Kakapo Media” and choose “Alternative texts” on the left.
2. The field in each row already contains the suggestion from title or file name. Overwrite it with what can be seen in the picture and leave the field — only a change is saved.
3. If you want to accept the suggestions unchanged, click “Apply all suggestions”. This applies to all images shown, at most 60 at a time; afterwards the page reloads and the next ones move up.
4. Mark purely decorative images with “Decorative”.

What “decorative” means

An image that only decorates and says nothing gets an explicitly empty alternative text. Then the screen reader skips it instead of reading out a file name.
