Check the provenance of an image
Kakapo Media reads the metadata of an image file and assigns the image to one of four levels. It does not look at the image content — it only reads what someone has written into the file.
View a single image
- Open “Media” in the WordPress menu and switch to the list view with the icon at the top left.
- Click the name of the image.
- Look at the “Provenance of the image” box on the right.
- If nothing is shown there yet, choose “Check provenance again”.
What the box shows
- The level: AI-generated, Likely AI, Uncertain or No evidence
- The detected tool, if one is named in the file
- Every single finding with source, field name and the raw value
- One sentence per finding saying what it proves — and what it does not
- The total of the points and the date of the measurement
“No evidence” does not mean “not an AI image”. It means that this file says nothing about it. Metadata is lost when cropping, most social networks strip it on upload, and an invisible watermark in the pixels is something this method fundamentally cannot see.
