Replace or rename a file
Under “Files” you replace the file of an entry or rename files. When replacing, the entry keeps its ID and, as long as the file name stays the same, its address too. When renaming, the references in posts and meta fields are updated.
Replace a file
- Open “Kakapo Media” and choose “Files” on the left.
- Enter the ID of the entry. You will find it in the address bar when you open the image in the media library.
- Choose the new file.
- Leave “Keep the old file name” on so the address stays the same, and click “Replace”.
With “Keep the old file name”, the new file must have the same file type as the old one. Without the tick, the type may change, and the references in posts and meta fields are updated along with it. In both cases the previous file and its sizes are gone afterwards and cannot be restored — download it beforehand if you still need it. Browsers and caches may still show the old image for a while.
Rename files
- Enter the IDs of the entries, separated by commas.
- Choose what the new name is built from: title, alternative text, or folder and title.
- Click “Preview” and check the new names.
- Only then does “Rename” become available.
Not updated: other plugins' own tables, hard-coded paths in theme files and other sites that embed your image. So start with a few images.
