Installing the eight plugins

The KakapoWP Suite consists of eight independent plugins: Consent, Analytics, Backup, Performance, SEO, Security, Roles and Media. Each one is installed as its own ZIP archive and runs independently of the others. You can start with a single one and add the rest later.

Before uploading

All eight plugin files state the same requirements in their header: WordPress 6.2 or higher and PHP 8.0 or higher. There is no set order, and none of the plugins requires another one.

1. In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
2. Choose the plugin’s ZIP archive and install it.
3. Activate the plugin. Only activation creates tables, default values and schedules.
4. A separate entry appears in the left-hand WordPress menu, for example “Kakapo Backup”.
5. Open the entry and switch to “Guide” on the left in the “System” group — that is where the first steps and the frequently asked questions for this particular plugin are.
6. Repeat this for every further plugin.

What activation creates

• Consent: the table for the consent log, the default values (banner active, Script Blocking on, validity 180 days) and empty lists for scan, domains, blocking rules, fonts, languages and translations.
• Analytics: the tables for views, events, sessions, recordings together with their timeline chunks, feedback and conversions, the daily maintenance run and the “kakapowp_analytics_view” capability for the administrator role.
• Backup: the default values — include uploads, keep 5 backups, schedule off, time 02:30 — as well as the schedules.
• Performance: the default values. The page cache is off out of the box; HTML minify, “defer” for JavaScript, Lazy-Load and the removal of the emoji scripts are on.
• Security: the table for the activity log and the default values, among them a login limit of 5 attempts with a 15-minute lockout, plus security headers switched on.
• SEO: the default values for title template, separator, Open Graph, schema and sitemap, plus an empty redirect list.
• Roles: the table for the change log, the default values (multiple roles and change log on), an empty trash for deleted roles and a snapshot of the factory state of all roles and capabilities as the reference for “Reset”.
• Media: only the default values — check on upload on, 40 images per run, folders in the media library on, badge on, but out of the box only for the “AI-generated” level and only on images in the content and on the featured image. Media does not create a table of its own, and activation does not start a run over the media library.

Who may open the plugin pages

Backup, Performance, SEO, Security, Roles and Media require the “manage_options” capability, which as a rule means the administrator role. Media’s folders are the exception: anyone allowed to upload files (“upload_files”) can create, rename and move folders in the media library and sort in the files they are allowed to edit. Only someone who may edit every file directly inside a folder can delete it. Consent can additionally be opened up to further roles via a capability of its own. Analytics works with the “kakapowp_analytics_view” capability, which the administrator role receives at activation.
