Validity, withdrawal and asking again
A decision that has been made does not apply forever. For this the plugin knows several periods and several ways to open the dialog again. Where this is set and how the periods interact is described here.
The general period
Under “General” (in German: „Allgemein“) you find the field “Consent valid for” with the values 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years; on a new installation 180 days are set. Values between 1 and 730 days are stored. The expiry time is not only in the cookie duration, but additionally in the signed payload that the server checks on every request.
A separate period per purpose
The “Expiry time per purpose” card allows a separate period for every category except “Necessary”, or the default “as above”. Effect: the shortest of the granted periods determines how long the cookies stay in the browser. In addition, the server checks each purpose against its own period — if it has expired, the scripts and embeds belonging to it stay blocked, even if the visitor accepted everything at the time.
Two ways to ask again
- “Ask again when the configuration has changed”: with every consent a fingerprint of the relevant configuration is stored — the list of active services including category, mode, granular individual consent, Script Blocking, font blocking, embed lock, Google Consent Mode and IAB TCF. If it differs later, the old decision no longer applies and the dialog appears again. Texts, colors, fonts and position deliberately do not count
- “Follow-up”: the field “Ask again after (days)” discards a decision after the set number of days, 0 switches it off. Under “Applies to” you choose between “Declines only”, “Decline & partial selection” and “All decisions”
- Consents from the time before the fingerprint feature do not carry one yet and stay valid until they expire normally
Ways back to the dialog
- Open “Kakapo Consent” and select the “Widget” item, then switch on “Show widget” — after the decision, a button floats in the chosen corner.
- Set the variant to “Icon” or “Text”, for the icon additionally the size (34 to 72 pixels) and the symbol, and set the corner in the grid.
- For a button in the middle of the content, insert the “Consent settings” block or use the shortcode.
- Put content that should only appear after consent into the “Conditional content” block and select the category there.
